We’ve all been there, we need money, and we need it now. Sadly, many websites give you some really terrible advice for how to make money in a pinch.
I mean, take surveys for $0.20 a piece, seriously?
While small amounts can add up over time, when you are broke and need money fast $0.20 is not going to make a difference.
20 Ways To Make Money When You’re Broke
This list of 20 ways to make money when you’re broke will be broken up into two chunks. The first chunk is ways you can make a good amount of money, around $100, in 1-2 weeks. Sometimes you can even start making money the day you start!
The second chunk will be ways to make money by the end of the month. I wish there were more ways to make a bunch of money in a single day, but if that were the case we’d all be rich.
I’m Broke And Need Money Fast
1 Sell Stuff You Don’t Need
So you need to make some money really fast. Start scouring your closets for anything you don’t use anymore but still works. Take a picture and post it online. You can post it to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and so much more.
I would recommend undervaluing it by a few dollars so people know it is still valuable, but they still want to get the deal. Somewhere around 10-15% off the used value.
The key is to repost the item often. Daily is a good rate. This keeps your item at the top of the list and more likely to sell.
Bigger items are better to make some good cash, but don’t discount the power of selling small items too.
If they don’t sell, consider donating them to a good cause. This gets clutter out of your house as well, so it is a win-win situation regardless.

2 Pawn Your Stuff For Quick Cash
If selling your items online isn’t working to make money fast, consider taking your things to a pawn shop.
Now pawn shops aren’t going to give you top dollar, and they are going to only take the big things. You can’t pawn a single DVD, so don’t bother with that.
But pawning will get you money quickly.
Don’t pawn anything you can’t afford to lose. While pawn shops do let you buy back your items, that isn’t a way to make cash fast, it is a way to make debt fast.
3 Food Delivery
If you’re broke and need money fast consider food delivery. Food delivery has become wildly popular due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And with how much people are enjoying not going to get their own food, I don’t see that going away any time soon.
So if you need a little extra cash, then why not? Get out in your car or even on your bike and go deliver food!
Another tip is to do this when you are already out and about. Maybe even on your way home from work. Make it part of your day instead of an intrusion of your day and you’ll make money without hardly thinking about it.

4 Driver For Uber or Lyft
Driving for Uber or Lyft can be a good gig if you live in a pretty well crowded area. Uber claims that their drivers make roughly $21 an hour, but I would be skeptical of such a high rate.
Still they pay you fast, so this is a good gig to make cash now.

5 Use Gigwalk to Find Small Jobs
Gigwalk posts small things that need to get done in your area. You just find something you can do, accept the work, then get it done.
The amount paid ranges greatly, and it is mostly for bigger cities, but you can make some quick cash.
Go ahead and sign up for gigwalk, the worst outcome is there aren’t any jobs available near you.
6 Be a Mystery Shopper
The basic idea behind mystery shopping is that you are asked to go do some sort of shopping you would already have done, but you are asked to be on the look out for certain things to make sure that the company is treating their customers right.
Sometimes you even get paid to do what you were already planning on doing anyway, like going out to dinner.
This can be a fun and easy way to make some quick cash (or save some cash). If you’re interested in mystery shopping check out this list of mystery shopping companies.

7 Sell Your Plasma
Most people don’t like the idea of selling plasma, but it can make good side cash, so I’m going to list it anyway.
Basically you go in and get your blood drawn, they pull out the plasma, then they put your blood back. After this whole process, which can take up to an hour, you get paid somewhere around $30. Not a bad gig for someone who needs some cash.
If you’re interested just search “give plasma near me” and you should find a place.
There are actually many ways to make money with your body if you’re interested.
8 Airbnb a Room
Airbnb is a great way to make extra money for broke people without doing hardly anything. If you have extra space, why not rent it out? I mean I’ve heard of couches being rented out on airbnb, you don’t get much money, but that single guy coming through town on the cheap needs some place to stay, right?
If you have a room to rent out you can make hundreds of dollars a month. So why not?
If you’re interested in hosting check out the airbnb website.
9 Rent Out Your Car
If your car is sitting in your driveway most days, it is just making you broke faster. Instead you could be making money on it by renting it out to people who need a ride.
Turo is the airbnb of cars. You rent out your car, they insure your vehicle so it is replaced if totaled, and you end up with extra cash in your pocket.
If you are close enough to work, consider riding a bike or taking a bus while you rent out your car. That way you can make money fast.
10 Get a House Sitting Gig
House sitting might be the perfect gig for someone who is broke and needs money fast. For house sitting you get paid to stay at someone else’s house. That can cut directly into housing costs.
All you have to do is make sure the house stays protected and maybe play with a pet. It is a wonderful gig that can make dozens of dollars a day for just sleeping somewhere.
(Maybe paired with Airbnb on your house and you can make some real money?)
If you’re interested check out the housesitter.com website.
I’m Broke And I Need Money Soon
If you’re broke and need money now then please use the first list of ten ideas, but if you’re broke but can get by for a few weeks until the next bills are due, then consider these options.

11 Pet Sitting
Pet sitting on Rover is a great way to make extra money as long as where you live has no restrictions on pets.
The only issue with Rover is that your placement on their app depends entirely on reviews, so it is hard to get work when you first start out.
Still, you might as well put your name out there and see what jobs you get. You may even have a great time playing with someone else’s pets without the responsibility of actually owning one.
12 Rent Out Space
There are many ways to rent out space, but for now I’ll focus on storage space on neighbor.com*. Basically, you list any extra space you have on the site and people can store their things at your house for a monthly fee.
Think of it as the airbnb of self storage.
This won’t make very much money, and it may take some time to fill your space, but any extra cash is worth it.
13 Do a Gig on Fiverr
If you have a digital or artistic skill then consider finding a gig on Fiverr. Fiverr is a place to promote your work in a freelance environment.
Unlike gigwalk, you have to attract clients so this can take a bit longer to make money.
The upside though is you can make a lot more cash doing this work. Check it out and see what other people are advertising, then build your own profile. You may be surprised at what you can do for people.
If the idea of children make you want to tear your hair out, then go ahead and skip this one. But if you are interested in helping working parents pay a better rate for childcare, then you can build a rather lucrative business.
The average daily cost of childcare is $30-40. If you charge just a bit less working parents will be grateful and you’ve easily won some business.
This is an especially good gig for a stay at home mom or dad who is already handling kids during the day.
Once you get a gig you could get paid as early as that same day. But it can take some time to find clients, so be patient.
15 Get a Seasonal Job
Sometimes you are broke and need money fast only for a little bit. So building a side hustle seems like too much. Instead, consider getting a seasonal job.
Seasonal jobs include package delivery during the holidays, snow removal in the winter, firework stand operator for the Fourth of July (and other holidays), ice delivery in the summer, fruit picking in the late summer, and so much more!
Most seasonal jobs require very little experience and can pay pretty well, so it is worth a look if you need to make some more money for a little while.
16 Get a Customer Service Job
This might sound like an odd suggestion, but customer service is getting outsourced more and more regularly these days. One of the main reasons being that people want to be able to get help any time, day or night.
The biggest upshot for you is that the times you can work are flexible, so you can be a work at home customer service rep after work or late in the evening.
If you think you are capable of answering the phone and answering questions you are trained to answer, then this is an easy way to make some money.
If you’re interested check out NexRep.com for a company you could work for.
17 Sign Up To Be a Handyman
People need help with basic things almost constantly. They are either too busy to do it themselves, don’t want to take time to learn how, or they can’t do it themselves anymore.
So if you aren’t afraid of fixing a small leak, or patching a hole, or digging some dirt, then this could be a great way to make some extra money.
What is even better is you don’t have to start a full-time business because there are websites that will market for you when you want to work.
Just sign up on Angie’s List and other sites to get handyman gigs fast.
18 Sign Up for a Temp Agency
There are jobs everywhere that need to be filled when someone is out sick or on vacation. That is where temp agencies step in.
If you are broke because you are having trouble finding a job, then try signing up for a temp agency until you can get your feet back on the ground.
Every area has their own temp agencies, so just search for one near you.
19 Do Data Entry
If you want an easy job that will pay you to work from home on your time then you should consider data entry.
Basically a company will give you a bunch of information and your job is to input that into the correct spaces. It can be meticulous, and it doesn’t require a lot of brain power, but it is simple and can make a decent amount of money.
This can be an especially good gig for someone that is good with numbers.
This one will take a bit more research to find a job, but it is worth it if you do. You can also add this to your Fiverr profile.
20 Get an Evening Job
Sometimes you just have to do things the old fashioned way. If you need money then get a second job.
There are a lot of opportunities for work that go part time into the evening so you can still get the sleep you need and it won’t affect your day job.
Examples of this are being a waiter or a night time custodian.
If you need the extra cash then start applying now.
